Teddy on a Mission

Just so you know, I am a traveling bear. This is a place where I can share text & pictures of the fun (and hopefully worthwhile) things I do with my unparents, Ken and Marijke.

Name:
Location: Greer, South Carolina, United States

I started this blog for the bear-loving friends in my church mostly since they were kind enough to send me on a mission trip to France. That was in 2006. Hopefully I'll get to go on other trips, too (like this most recent extended trip in 2009). But my main mission is to bear each blessed day with gratitude.

Teddy Strikes Again!

Let me tell you a super cute story. When Ken, Marijke and I were sitting in the airport in Philadelphia a couple of months ago (have we really been gone that long!), we were taking pictures of our snack bag when this fun couple couldn't help but introduce themselves. They told us that they had been in the States for about a month, visiting Wilifried's son and family - near Charlotte, NC. They were headed home to Belgium while we were just starting our journey in that same country. Naturally we didn't sit together on the plane but, even though we were all very tired after we arrived, we exchanged names and numbers. They said they'd be happy to show us around their special town if we should make it that way - and we said we'd really like to try.

Fast forward until the other day when K,M,T and I were in that wonderful bed & breakfast in Ghent! (Remember the pics?) Well, guess who helped us find that place? And guess who made us feel so special during our stay there! You've got it - Katy and Wilifried. They went overboard in showing us Belgium hospitality. The food and conversation will be remembered forever - especially since we have so many great pictures of their home and garden. We all enjoyed champagne on the patio - with an amazing assortment of hors d'oeuvres. Then we drooled over the car in the garage before enjoying a great selection of music while hearing about some amazing adventures. Katy's oil paintings showered the walls while Wilifried's glass works bathed the room in pretty light. Then, for supper, we got spoiled with about seven different kinds of meat to put on the table grill, as well as various vegetables. Not only that but Katy brought out not one but TWO perfect wines from their cellar. The second one was bottled in the same year that Thomas was born! Check out his reaction to that! This may be a once-in-a-lifetime thing...

Thomas' new friend's name is Artiste. She was such a lady dog and never tried to ruffle my fur once.

Oh - one more thing. I have to tell you that the house was surrounded by BEARS! You'll forgive me if I post pictures of me with concrete statues as well as dolls dressed in bear costumes, etc. What a place! (That was better than the old wine for me!)

Love, Teddy

P.S. I wish I had pictures of the next night's dinner, too. Thankfully K&W let us take them out to eat in their artist's village - we sat on the patio with an overhead heater going on softly as we ate so that we didn't even sense the rain falling around us. The food in Belgium is superb - one of the many thousands of reasons to return - and dogs (and bears) are allowed into restaurants if they behave themselves.
