Teddy on a Mission

Just so you know, I am a traveling bear. This is a place where I can share text & pictures of the fun (and hopefully worthwhile) things I do with my unparents, Ken and Marijke.

Name:
Location: Greer, South Carolina, United States

I started this blog for the bear-loving friends in my church mostly since they were kind enough to send me on a mission trip to France. That was in 2006. Hopefully I'll get to go on other trips, too (like this most recent extended trip in 2009). But my main mission is to bear each blessed day with gratitude.

Places we stayed in Normandy.

It's hard to begin to choose pictures to share the amazing experiences we've had on this very recent trip into Normandy, France. (Therefore I'll post a lot of smaller pics - just click on any you want to see larger - let me challenge the grandbabies to find the meat truck!)
Thomas joined us after his time in San Rafael, France - with our wonderful relatives, Albert and Lenie. His father had told him how June 6th is so well remembered in Normandy (as well as the rest of the world, of course). Even Obama flew in to Caen for the 65th anniversary of the famous World War II landing. (I didn't get my picture with him but I did wave at his helicopter as it flew by - and I got to see the transport plane that brought in his limousines, etc.!) Anyway, Thomas had as good a time as his folks and I did. You'll see the reasons why in the next blogs.
Right now, though, here are pictures of a few of the places where we slept.
First we discovered the delightful village of Saint Saens. Not only were the streets reminiscent of an English scene of 30 years ago, but the bed and breakfast in an old abbey was worth going back to (and we did on our way through to Belgium.

Here are some scenes of the village as well as the views in and from our room.

As you can tell, we were most impressed. Check out our breakfast and sitting rooms, too - can you tell I can BEARly contain myself with praise? Thomas had as good a rest as Ken and Marijke did but I might have loved the shower, the good books and the pool table a bit too much (silly bear).

Secondly, we stayed with Franck and Aude and their two beautiful girls, Alex and Agathe. Their hearts were as big as their home and we really appreciated them putting us up since the local hotels were quite filled to capacity for all the celebrations. Hopefully you will come to South Carolina one day so that we can return your gracious favor.? And please let us know when your little baby arrives in December; we are sure that he or she will be beautiful.

Finally, we spent a couple of nights in another delightful bed & breakfast in Belgium where we met up with some other really cool new friends. More about them in another post but, for now, let me just say that Ghent is a town worth returning to - or staying in for a period of time! Unfortunately, we got rained out of a proper visit to Brugges but that only means we have more reason to return to Flanders. Yeh!

P.S. I'm in Rotterdam for a week and am catching my breath again - hurrah. I'll be sure to get some pictures of this fine town! But I wasn't invited yesterday, when K&M went for an hour and a half walk around the lake. They wished they'd had the camera with them except that it might have gotten soaked by the rain that attacked them! They tell me there was a fantastic rainbow afterwards over the windmills - wish I could have seen THAT.
Affectionately, TR
